Greg is a certified teacher who was hired to work as a general teacher's aide in a kindergarten classroom. He is there to support all the students, but specifically works with small groups of students. The classroom teacher is working on basic numeracy skills. She is having the students count on a daily basis, recognize that groups of objects are equivalent to a number, and order numbers on a number line.
There are a group of students that need additional support in this area. They are forgetting the numbers orally and are unable to count to 10 on a consistent basis. What are some additional activities that Greg could do with a small group of students to support these math skills? Remember, you as the teacher's aide cannot teach new skills; you are there to reinforce skills that were already taught.
1. Describe four different math activities that Greg could use to support this group of students.
2. For each activity that you come up with, explain why it would be used.
3. Provide five accommodations Greg could use to support these students.
