The adversary system seeks to protect individual rights by diffusing government power by including several different actors, each with an important- equally powerful, role to play and ensuring that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The four Amendments found in the U.S. Constitution's Bill of Rights that deal specifically with criminal procedure are the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th Amendment.
