You will pick one of the countries, either Turkey or Singapore. Include all of the following points:

• Important country demographics: Describe the country’s key demographic factors: ethnicity, population size, age of population, and religious background. What language is spoken in the country?

• Business overview: What are the major industries, primary exports, and primary trading partners?

• Describe the business climate in the country. Is it easy or difficult to do business in the country? Explain why.

• Describe the country’s political environment: What is the type of government? Who are the leaders? On the spectrum of political systems, from democracy to totalitarianism, where does the country fit it?

• What are the risks of LaserEdge doing business in this country? Comment on the political, economic, and business risks that your company might face.

• Provide your boss with an assessment of the pros and cons of doing business in this country. Incorporate your thoughts about the benefits and risks of this country.

Remember this is a briefing memo you are writing to Mr. Martinez and your colleagues, so you should use a memo format. However, the body of the memo should be in paragraph form.

This is strictly a country briefing, so do not include other issues such as how your company should market the products in the country, etc.

Please submit paper by 6:00 pm on Feb. 27th through Blackboard Safe Assign, and also turn in a hard copy in class.

Grading: This paper will be worth 100 points, as indicated in the syllabus.

The Grade will be based on several key elements:

Content, summary, and communication - 70%

• You will find an enormous amount of information about these countries. Your challenge will be to identify the key facts and information and present it in a concise way.

• Your assessment of the pros and cons of doing business in the country will count for 20%, so be sure to give this some original thought.

• Feel free to include any diagrams, charts, or maps that would be helpful. (Diagrams and charts will not count towards the minimum length.)

Research sources and citations - 10%

• You will be expected to use 3 or more sources of information. Acceptable sources include newspaper articles, magazine articles, books, and websites.

• You will need to include citations for all of your reference sources. Please list your citations on a page at the end of the memo. Refer to the APA citation format and to the guide below.

Organization, Grammar, and Punctuation – 10%

• This is a business memo, but grammar and punctuation still count. Write in paragraphs. You can use bullet points for some parts, if appropriate, but be sure that all bullets are consistent.

• If you are unsure of your English language or grammar skills, you can go to the Academic Support Center for assistance and proofreading.
