You have been hired as a consultant by the CEO of a multinational automobile company. The CEO is not looking for a specific answer to her problem but an approach that will help her and her team understand, interpret and look for solutions to their problem. After reading the following scenario, describe the action plans you would provide to the CEO for her to resolve the problem.
Note: you must use academic examples/evidence to support your points. You can use any of the theories or concepts written in the text book.
Scenario for assignment 2:
The CEO of a multinational automobile company has reviewed the recent trends in disruptive innovation that may impact the future of her business. This includes but is not limited to autonomous cars, ridesharing and peer-to peer car sharing services. In addition, the increasing cost of petrol and lack of, or expensive car parking spaces are external issues she needs to consider. She recently received a report, indicating that people may no longer need or want to have own a car. This poses a serious threat to her company and the industry in general. The suggestion is that the car industry, as we know it today, will be obsolete in 20 years. Traditionally, she has only had to contend with direct competitors. Many of her employees including some top and middle managers are unaware that this is an issue and are working business as usual.
Purpose
Students will gain a deeper understanding of one of the important issues facing contemporary managers. It is expected students will critically examine the chosen issue from a variety of viewpoints. Students will be able to apply theory to practice by including actual organisational examples in the discussion.
