Mahatma Gandhi is clearly one on the great human beings in history. He was not only a deeply spiritual man but a man of action as well. For the next few days you will be watching the film "Gandhi" which traces his life from his early days as a lawyer in South Africa to his eventual assassination in 1949. Upon completion of this movie you are asked to complete the following assignment in a typed, properly formatted (title page, font, spaced, margins) paper.
PART A- EULOGY
Compose a eulogy (a speech given in memory of someone who has died) of Mahatma Gandhi. It should be about 200 words in length and include the following characteristics.
1) a selection of 2 significant character traits or qualities of the Gandhi (they can be positive or negative since we can usually learn more from a person who has overcome limitations than from a person who has suffered few pains in their growth)
2) a selection of 2 significant events in the life of the deceased
3) a general analysis of the deceased person's life in order to draw from it a lesson to be applied to the present lives of the listeners or audience.
PART B - PERSONAL RESPONSE
Answer EACH of the following in a full sentence form:
1) Would Gandhi's approach to changing the social structures work in the present day and describe 2 reasons as to why or why not?
2) Gandhi described Hinduism as a search for truth through nonviolent means. Would you describe/define Christianity in the same manner? Why or why not?
