TWO: The 1920's saw the fall of progressives and the rise of the conservatives. Also, the United States retreated from the world. Why did the United States practice isolationism in the 1920's?

  • This question asks you to think of reasons why the U.S. isolated itself in the 1920's. You will need to examine the horrors of the final few years of the 1910's. Keep in mind the rise of empires, land grabs, the First World War, and the Spanish Flu. Also, you need to examine the shift from progressive to conservative politics in the United States.
  • Discuss the complexities of international relations right before World War One. How were nations aligned? (think family connections). Talk about how empires grew at exponential rates and began to "bump" into one another. This was discussed in class in a video as well as in your book.
