Case:

Robert is a 78-year-old African American male. He is the primary caregiver to his wife Loretta, who has Alzheimer's disease. Robert and Loretta live in a rural area, and their two adult children live out of state. Loretta's symptoms of dementia are increasing, and she has been wandering from the home. Robert knows that Loretta needs care, but the couple is unable to afford a personal attendant. There are no programs in the community that provide Alzheimer's support to patients or respite for caregivers. Robert promised Loretta that he would never place her in a skilled nursing facility. Last week Robert was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and has a poor prognosis.
