Assignment:

Find a recent news article (within the last 6 months) that relates to a current/ongoing FEDERAL criminal trial in a United States District Court in any state. (PLEASE DO NOT CONFUSE A FEDERAL CRIMINAL TRIAL WITH A STATE CRIMINAL TRIAL!) Begin with a brief overview of the case, i.e., the state in which the case has been brought and the specific district (i.e., the Western District of Oklahoma), how long is the trial expected to last, who is/are the defendant(s) charged in the case, under what federal criminal statutes have they been charged, what are the basic facts of the case, who is the federal district judge presiding over the case, who is the lead federal prosecutor (i.e., Assistant U.S. Attorney) and lead defense counsel, has the defense counsel raised any objections to the government violating his or her client's constitutional rights, and if so, which one(s), what is the possible punishment if one or more defendants are found guilty (if discussed in the article), etc.

Then, using your critical thinking skills, discuss (1) whether this case could best be described as one based on the "crime control model" or the "due process model," and why; and (2) does it appear that this case was charged by the federal government based on the "law-in-action approach" or the "law-on-the-books approach," and why?
