Case: Rahima is a social worker in her early 40s, she is married with three daughters (Rini 16-yrs, Monika 14-yrs and Kanmani 10-yrs). She and her husband (Rayyan) moved from Malaysia to Canberra in 2009 and own their own house in Banks (South Canberra). Rahima has neurological damage in her leg from a car accident, five years ago. She can stand but finds it difficult to walk for long distances, she prefers a wheelchair for shopping but uses two walking sticks at work unless she is very fatigued. Rahima and her family follow Islamic beliefs. In her family, females (Rahima and her daughters) start wearing head cover (Hijab) from an early age. They pray several times a day at home, and they go to the mosque on Friday's afternoon. Rayyan only chooses to shop from a Halal butcher in Canberra, pork and alcohol is not a part in their diet. As any family of 5, juggling work-life balance is a challenge for Rahima and her husband. In 2008, Rahima's aunty passed away after experiencing breast cancer and in recent years
(2019) Rahima's mother diagnosed with breast cancer, but she was responding well to the treatment. As Rahima has a family history of breast cancer, she is aware that she needs to undertake regular breast self-exam.One day, while Rahima was talking a shower and she was doing her breast self-exam, she felt a lump in her left breast. She tried to remain calm, her first thought was what would happen to her daughters if something happened to her. Rahima made an appointment with her GP and mammogram was immediately ordered. Mammogram was showing a lump therefore the Doctor requested a biopsy. Waiting for the biopsy result has been very stressful for Rahima.
The good news is that it was found to be a benign lump (Fibroadenomas) that she was admitted yesterday to the hospital for further investigation and treatment.
