Task 1:

In assessment item 1, you considered the implications of the new rules of performance management for an organisation. In task 2, you reviewed the general process of managing performance, making recommendations as to how your organisation should define, measure and develop performance. So, now we arrive at task 3...and it's time to finally put money on the table...or should we?

In this task, you are required to present an argument regarding the utility of a performance-based compensation system for your organisation. This may be the organisation that formed the foundation of either A1 or A2. More specifically, you are required to:

• Present a critical review of the theory and recent research findings highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of performance-based compensation systems. You should consider this point from the perspective of multiple stakeholders (employees, employers, unions etc).

• Describe and justify an appropriate rewards system for your organisation. In describing your rewards system, you should be clear about the purpose, timing and nature of the rewards on offer.

• Describe any problems that you, can expect to encounter in either the introduction or the continued operation of the practices you have proposed and justify your argument by referencing applicable theory and recent research findings.

Again, it is strongly suggested you focus on a specific group of employees, whether it be management, administrators, customer service representatives etc. It is expected that you will continue working on the same role discussed in task 2.

Your analysis and recommendations must be supported by findings presented in at least TEN research papers published within relevant peer-reviewed journals. In determining relevance, your assessor will consider the industry within which your organisation operates; the quality of the journal publication; and the discipline of the journal (known in our circles as the Field of Research). The other way you can assist to find peer reviewed articles (but not reliable) is to tick the "peer reviewed" box when you are doing a search in the Business Source Complete database.
