1. Describe and explain the steps by which the United States expanded westward between the end of the American Revolution annd 1877. In what ways did expansion strengthen the country? In what ways did it create problems for the country? You will need to explain the process by which the country acquired each new piece of territory and incorporated it into the nation, as well as the forces which motivated and enabled expansion.
2. Describe and explain the various ways in which industrialization and the rise of a market economy changed American society between the end of the American Revolution and 1877. You will need to explain how industrialization affected where and how people lived their lives, remembering that various groups in American society were affected differently.
3. Compare the struggle for rights for African Americans and women during the years between the American Revolution and 1877. You will need to explain similarities and differences in the repression these groups faced, the issues and events, the ideals and strategies, the accomplishments and unattained goals of the movements.
