ASSESSMENT TASK:
Assessment tasks 3 and 4 are linked - you will work on the same topic in assessment task 3 as you do for assessment task 4. In other words, if your individual report is on the psychological interventions of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), then your presentation will continue with a discussion of the blopsychosocial risk factors of IBS.

For this assessment task you are asked to write a report on the current research surrounding psychological interventions for a selected Illness (from a set listed below). These Illnesses are typically perceived of as having 'physical' or 'biological' causes, but psychology has a key role for management or treatment.
The topics are listed below, as well as some tips on how to achieve a good mark for this assessment (including reviewing the marking criteria). Please also note that there will be time given in your tutorial to assist with assessment preparation.
Address the following research review question:
Describe and explain the psychological intervention that appears to be most effective in treating or managing symptoms of [your chosen condition]. Why is this approach more effective than others?
To complete this task well you should:
• Identify and explain the illness you have chosen.
• Identify and explain the psychological treatment you have identified as most effective in assisting with symptoms of your chosen illness.
• Explain to the reader: What is the treatment Why might this treatment be effective in theory?
• Ensure that your work is based on thorough investigation of psychological literature (using journal database search).
• Use current empirical research to explain why this treatment is effective relative to other treatments, consider questions like:
o In what studies has this treatment been shown to improve symptoms?
o With what populations?
o Using which experimental methods? For example, did they conduct focus groups, take blood tests, questionnaire etc.
o What other approaches has the identified approach been compared with?
o Why were other approaches less successful?
• Condude by explaining how the psychological approach can be used in holistic treatment of the patient.
