Assessment Item: Analysis of an organisational case study

Addresses learning outcome(s): On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. Analyse personal and organisational situations in terms of theories of knowledge;

2. Analyse the knowledge needs of an organisational situation;

4. Critique different forms of knowledge in light of current research (PG only).

6688 (PG) Task: To describe and critically analyse the knowledge processes behind one of the case studies presented on the unit website and analyse the source, target and flow of knowledge and information in the situation. The paper should also describe the form of the knowledge and identify gaps, shortcomings and risks in the situation. Alternately, students may draw on a suitable case study from their own workplace with permission from their employer and in consultation with the unit Lecturer. Case studies outside the unit or the workplace will not be accepted unless approved. Case studies on organisations you do not have first-hand experience of will not be accepted.

This should be presented as a discussion paper of 2000 - 2500 words.

2. What are the possible models, techniques or tools for understanding or analysing the knowledge situation?

3. What model, technique or tool have you selected to analyse the situation and why?

4. What is the knowledge or intellectual capital that needs to be acquired, created or transferred?

5. Who needs the knowledge?

6. What are the possible sources of knowledge to meet the need?

7. Is the knowledge required being transferred? If so, then describe how?

8. What are the problems, gaps, shortcomings or risks in the situation?
