Nursing Foundations Maternity Nursing Assignment - Case Study and Analysis

Purpose - Practical nurses play an important role in promoting, restoring and maintaining the health of the maternity client and her family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. The purpose of the case study is to demonstrate your ability to critically analyze current literature and apply your knowledge of maternity nursing to a maternal client.

Part 1 - The Case Study (3 pages, double spaced)

1. Select a topic from the list below that will allow you to demonstrate your knowledge regarding maternity nursing.

Prenatal care
High-risk pregnancy
Labor and delivery
Maternal postpartum care
Maternal postpartum complications
Newborn care

2. Describe a situation rated to your chosen topic. The situation should:

Be written in chronological order.
Include important background information.
Describe people involved.
Provide dialogue if needed.
Present the situation without any attempt at anaiysis.

Part 2 - Case Study Analysis (5 pages, double spaced)

1. Describe and analyze the problem(s) presented in your case study. What occurred and why?

2. Present solution(s) to the problem(s) and how they could be implemented. What would you do as a nurse in the case study?

3. Apply related knowledge to your analysis and solutions. Consider discussing the following topics if they are applicable to your case study:

Role of the maternity nurse
Family-centered maternity care
Legal and ethical principles related to maternity nursing
Cultural competency related to maternity nursing
Teaching and learning principles and health promotion
Nursing process and nursing metaparadigm

4. Use a minimum of two scholarly reference to support your statements (e.g. textbook, peer-renewed journal article, reputable website, etc..,)

5. A draft of the assignment for general review.
