You are a human resources associate for Flyaway Airlines, with headquarters located in Atlanta, Georgia. The Human Resource Director has asked you to conduct research and provide suggestions regarding two complaints that need your urgent attention.
Complaint 1
Ellison Gray and Brady Hunte are flight attendants who had been working together on the same flight for a few months. After they became acquainted, Mr. Hunte began to pester Ms. Gray with unnecessary questions and hang around her whenever she was sitting in the jump seat or in empty seats at the back of the plane. He asked her out to lunch on several occasions. When she did not accept his entreaties, he wrote her a note that said, "I cried over you last night and I'm totally drained today. I have never been in such constant turmoil."When Ms. Gray read this note, she became shocked and frightened. Mr. Hunte followed her and demanded that she talk with him.
Following this series of events, Ms. Gray spoke with you about her concerns, but indicated that she would try to handle the situation herself.
Ms. Gray was sent to California for training. While she was at the training, Mr. Hunte sent her a card and a long letter concerning their invented relationship. The letter made her uncomfortable. She contacted you and asked for assistance. You spoke with Mr. Hunte and instructed him to leave Ms. Gray alone. You also transferred Mr. Hunte to another location.
Six months have passed. Mr. Hunte is now scheduled to return to the former location. Ms. Gray has found out about his impending return and is very upset. She sent you a letter expressing her concern and indicated how upsetting this is to her, especially after receiving another letter from Mr. Hunte suggesting that they had some type of relationship.
In a Word document, compose an email to the Human Resources Director that includes the following:
1. Recommend how you would respond to Ms. Gray's complaint.
2. Inform the Director whether there were any other measures that could have been taken in this situation.
3. Describe and analyze the implications of absolving an employer from liability even though it has failed to correct a hostile environment.
In addition, Flyaway Airlines is in the process of revising its harassment policies and complaint procedures. In the email also:
a. Outline a new item that should be included in the harassment policy.
b. Identify at least five questions that should be posed to an employee who is complaining of harassment.
c. List at least five questions that should be asked of people accused of harassment.
