Purpose

The final group project of this class is a presentation in which you will critically describe and analyze either an IT firm or an IT topic you choose. Although not required, you are recommended to choose an IT company.

Choosing an IT company (hardware producer, softwareproducer, Internet-based companies, or other type of information companies) will make sureyou could apply most of your learning from this class to the company.

If you choose to analyzea non-IT company, you are expected to focus on an IT topic in this company. The difficulty towrite a non-IT company is the limit visibility of its internal IT functions, but feel free to write acompany as long as you know it well enough for a strategic level presentation.

To summarize, to complete the project, you need to:

• Choose a company as the subject of your presentation (A publicly traded or widely known IT company is recommended.)

• Introduce this company to your audience (You should assume your audience know nothing about this company, even if it is a fairly famous one)

• Describe and analyze the business of this company

• Make your assessments, conclusions, or recommendations by applying concepts and frameworks covered in this class

Please also note that companies such as Zara, FreshDirect, Amazon, Google, Facebook, and Netflix that have been discussed in details in the textbook cannot be used as your presentationsubject. You can choose any other companies, and I offered a list of example companies in theend of this document.

You have the flexibility to choose the structure and the contents of your presentation. I also offered some example contents in the end of this document, but they are just general suggestions. You need to selectively use, adjust, and expand them to fit your context or abandonthem completely. Assume casual business readers, not me, as your target audience.

Instruction Contents

Below are just example questions you may consider. They are not mandatory and do not serve as the bases of my grading. They are not meant to be an outline of your presentation either, nor are they exhaustive.

You are encouraged to cover anything you think strategically relevant to the chosen company in your description and analyses. It is also fine if you choose to focus on only one business line of a complex company.

For example, you may only focus on the tablet business of Apple Inc (i.e., iPad) and not cover other Apple businesses such as its laptop, music players, mobile phones, and Apple TV etc.

If you choose to focus on only one business line of a company, you may tailor the question below to fit your purpose.

Most of the example questions below apply to the situation that you choose an IT company. If you choose to present a non-IT company, you can still use some of the questions below, but make sure you highlight IT as either the problem or the solution enough.

This is my part :Competitive environments (pls answer each questions completely)

o Which industry or industries does this company operate in?

o Who are the major competitors of this company (or its selected business lines)?

o Are there many new entrants recently? What are the major entry barriers? Are there threatening substitutes emerging?

o Who are the customers of this company's products and services?

o Who are the major suppliers?

o Analyze all the five forces influencing this company. How strong is each of them?

Overall, is this company positioned in an attractive or difficult environment?

o Are there any other players who also have major influences on this company?

For example, alliance partners, government agencies, etc
