2. The NASW Code of Ethics includes working with diverse populations and communities whose values and beliefs may be different from yours. Discuss two previous experiences that are relevant to individual differences and/or diversity, as described within the NASW Code of Ethics: As an individual with Achondroplasia Dwarfism, I am part of the disabled community, a severely oppressed population. I have experienced marginalization, discrimination, and exclusion throughout my life. I have been stared at, ridiculed, and even denied service because of my dwarfism. However, I have also experienced the power of community and the strength of the human spirit. I have met many amazing people who have taught me about acceptance, compassion, and love. I am proud to be a part of the disabled community, and I am committed to advocating for change.

3. Describe a specific aspect or issue in social work that interests you most and explain how you became interested in this issue: Social acceptance for the disabled population.

Experience Related to Social Work

Discuss any volunteer/unpaid staff or paid experiences in human services, community work, or any other experiences that have contributed to your choice of social work as a profession: Working with families who are interested in adopting children with dwarfism for over 20 years. I provide them with information about dwarfism, the adoption process, and the resources available to them. Advocatng for parents who are facing challenges during the adoption process, and children who are needing parents, I have helped create families. I am passionate about helping individuals who are adopting children with dwarfism, and I am committed to providing them with the support they need. Making a difference in the lives of many families, I strive to make the world a better place...expand.
