Composition and Style Assignment - Research Paper

Objectives - The goals of the research paper are:

To demonstrate an ability to write and cite sources in an academic setting.
To develop a robust argument backed up with convincing sources.
To incorporate all the components of an essay.
To build on learned writing skills.

Write a 1250-1500 word research paper where external research is required. Choose one of the following topics and be sure to narrow it down to a specific topic/thesis:

1) Discuss a piece of fiction (a book or a film) that has a meaningful societal impact

2) Compare and contrast 2-3 types of social media

3) Describe a social, cultural, or political issue that you feel strongly about and explain its relevance.

The research paper should include:

A one-page essay outline included after the Works Cited page.
An organized structure with an introduction, thesis statement, topic sentences, supporting evidence, and conclusion.
At least 6 sources, four of which must be academic/scholarly. Students are expected to use the same sources that they included in their research notes. Please do not cite Wikipedia.
At least 3 citations per page. Citations should be in MLA format.

Note - Choose the topic number 3.

Back up as many claims as possible with citations while still developing your own argument. Narrow the topic to a more specific topic and thesis. Show that you thoroughly researched your topic.
