  • Lastly, identify and describe a healthcare law in your state or the U.S. that addresses a healthcare issue.
  • Conclude with how is nursing involved in the healthcare problem addressed by the law or the policy.

Policies and laws in healthcare are critical ingredients that assist the healthcare industry in shaping service delivery, protecting patient's rights, and ensuring public health. Policies are systematic frameworks made by organizations like nursing employee skill-related policies that govern the behavior, practice, and skill of the employee in the organization (World Health Organization, 2018). However, policies are different from laws because the latter are external regulations set by the legislature, and there are consequences like punishment if one does not as expected. Both are irreplaceable when it comes to keeping the population or country sound.

South Carolina and other states in the US have focused on policies that reform the healthcare system. For instance, the state's Nurse Practice Act allows nurses to perform certain clinical tasks, require nursing licenses, and establish the ethics that nurses will follow. This policy is geared towards nursing issues including the practice of having qualified practitioners who provide healthcare, and services that follow ethical standards and these contribute to the quality of healthcare.

On healthcare law, South Carolina's Health Information Exchange (HIE) Act aids the safe exchange of health information among healthcare entities through electronic means. This law is proposed to bring some efficiency in integrated care, raise the number of healthy people, and cost-effective health care (Li et al., 2023). Nursing concerns with the Nursing Practice Act and making sure that nurses practice is under the determined span and standards. Moreover, among the HIE Act implementation services, nurses become a very important part of safely handling and exchanging information with the patients providing the chance for better and coordinated care provision.

Consequently, the Nursing Practice Act and HIE Act represent how policies and laws work jointly to provide the correct treatment. Amongst the healthcare professionals, nurses being on the frontline of patient care are decisively tied to these policies, hence knowing and following either rules or laws becomes imperative in delivering quality healthcare.
