Researching the high recidivism rate in the United States involves several steps.

A research question is then formulated, such as "What factors contribute to the high recidivism rate in the United States?" A correlational research method is chosen, which allows for the determination of relationships between variables without manipulation (Jhangiani et al., 2019). Data is collected on potential contributing factors like socio-economic status, education level, and availability of post-release support systems.

This data is then analyzed to identify any correlations with the recidivism rate. The findings are interpreted, and if strong correlations exist between certain factors and the recidivism rate, these could be contributing to the high rate of reoffending (Jhangiani et al., 2019).
