Your Role:
You are a Social Worker / Human Services Worker employed by the Greenfield Community Centre Inc. Personally and professionally, you have a strong eco-social orientation. The organisation has recently been in something of a crisis, having witnessed a decline in community engagement, and management committee membership and interest in recent years. There was even some concern about possible defunding. However, a new committee was formed at the recent AGM and these members are not prepared to go down without a struggle and are determined to find a new way forward. As a professional, you are deeply concerned with the links between social and environmental issues and the impacts of the ecological crisis (and climate change in particular) on human wellbeing - including this community.

In line with its new focus on the ‘triple bottom line' (ie social, economic and environmental sustainability), the State Government, through the Department of Communities, Disability Services and Seniors has invited applications for funds to run new projects around the theme of ‘Sustainable Communities'. As pilot funding, the guidelines are very flexible and all proposals will be given serious consideration as long as they address the issues of environmental and social sustainability. As an organisation you have decided to apply for funds, with the intent of developing a project, or running an activity in Greenfield, hopefully activating some community spirit and making the organisation a relevant and important force again.

Alternatively, you are also interested in exploring what could be done without funding and ‘outside' the system. This might involve a project, activity or action that similarly addresses the environmental and social issues being faced by the community, and the ecological crisis and climate emergency in particular.

For this assignment you need to develop a proposal for a project, activity or action. This could be directed towards applying for and using government funding or be something that is developed outside of the funding system.
