Research Problem:
Tourism QLD would like to increase recreation opportunities in the Wet Tropics. To do this, they need to identify locations where it would be possible to build helicopter landing sites that meet the following criteria:
1. Within 1 km from the boundary of "conservation and natural environments" defined by the Wet Tropics Land Use Mapping, but not actually inside the areas themselves
2. Have a slope < = 5 deg
3. More than 100 m away from a road centreline as defined by the Queensland Baseline Roads and Tracks, categories 1-7 inclusive (i.e. from freeways /motorways to 4wd tracks)
4. More than 5 km away from any form of residential area defined by the WetTropics Land Use Mapping
5. Have a minimum size >= 2,500mA2
6. Be within the Wet Tropics Boundary
7. Not include any water bodies (helicopters cannot land on water)
They are requesting information on your recommendations for the top five potential locations.
Deliverables:
1. Upload a .jpg showing a table detailing the spatial data used, its spatial resolution, source, and any caveats relating to data quality ;
2. Upload a .jpg showing a flowchart of the spatial analysis tools / operations applied (the flowchart should fit on a single A4 page and be formatted as discussed in class);
3. Explain your reasoning behind how you prioritized your top five locations from all the potential options that met the criteria above ;
4. Upload a .jpg of your map as a single A 3page showing the results of your potential helicopter landing site analysis, including your top five
locations clearly marked
5. Describe a detailed plan to communicate your results using the principles of GAMPER, considering the many options for communication that we've discussed throughout the semester.
