Case Study

Greg is a 32-year-old male, married with two children under 4. He was the youngest child of three and had two older sisters. Greg's parents are both alive and together, and he is close to his mother.

As a child, Greg was athletic, but at age 9 he had a severe injury that took six months to heal. Despite his injury as a child, he played on his school's baseball team throughout middle school and high school. In high school, he was popular and more interested in sports and friendships than in academics. He earned a scholarship to a local junior college for baseball, and he continued to play while he finished his associate degree.

After junior college, Greg obtained a job with his father's hardware company to pay the bills, but he was uninterested in the work. He married at 26 and is the financial support for the family.

Greg is now an employee at your company. He feels dissatisfied with his work but is hesitant to change. He is seeking career counseling because he wants a job with more potential that provides him with meaning and satisfaction.

Upon investigation, you find that Greg is conscientious about his work and treats his coworkers exceptionally well. Leadership has noticed how his presence and demeaner positively influence his team and their productivity. He communicates suggestions and ideas in ways that motivate his co-workers.

You believe that it is in the best interest of Greg and the company to work with him to craft a career mobility plan.
