An electromagnetic wave of amplitude 10 V/m and frequency f =1 GHz is propagating in air and it is incident on a perfectly conducting medium. The angle of incidence is 30?. Electric field is polarized perpendicular to the plane of incidence. Neatly draw a diagram illustrating the problem and showing the co-ordinates you plan to use.

(a) Write expressions for the electric and magnetic fields of the incident wave.

(b) Find the fields of the reflected wave. Show your work neatly and give briefly reasons for the major mathematical steps in your work. Draw figures if they help you to explain your work.

(c) Describe the transmitted wave.

(d) Derive an expression for the surface current density (Js) on the conductor surface. In a diagram show the vector relationships among Js , the magnetic field Hs at the surface of the conductor, and the incident electric field vector.
