The experiment is a simultaneous roll of three fair dice. Let X be a random variable that denotes the sum of the returns of the three dice, Y be a random variable that denotes their product and Z be a random variable that denotes the maximum difference, in absolute value, between the returns.

  • Express the event where every die returns at least a 5 in terms of X and/or Y and/or Z and calculate its probability.
  • Express the event where every die returns at most a 2 in terms of X and/or Y and/or Zand calculate its probability.
  • List all outcomes that belong to the event (X≥15 and Y≥120).
  • List all outcomes that belong to the event Z=0.
  • Food for thought: how would you calculate these probabilities if you knew that the dice favor even numbers (75%) over odd numbers (25%)?
