Question: Prepare a 4-6 minute Informative Speech on a topic of interest and value to you. Appropriate topics include (but are NOT limited to) persons, places, events, and traditions related to your cultural, ethnic, racial, gender, religious, and geographic identity/background. A minimum of three (3) credible and authoritative sources as discussed in class is required. OUTLINE REQUIRED. Extemporaneous delivery. PowerPoint slides required.
Additional criteria will be given in class.
Please keep in mind the following guidelines when selecting a topic:
1. Select a topic you are very interested in and/or you already know quite a bit about.
2. Select a topic you have previously researched.
3. Select a topic that can be narrowed down (Easily divided into main points/ideas).
4. Keep your audience's interests in mind when picking your topic: You will be required to establish relevance and/or offer "reasons to listen" to your audience.
5. The presentation should not be a demonstration speech although a brief demonstration (30 seconds or so) could be included.
6. Chapters 6-9 in your e-book are excellent resources for you to utilize concerning determining a topic, outlining your speech, and offering delivery tips.
