Question: A human service organization that I used to volunteer at includes Gilda''s Club South Florida. Gilda''s cub is an organization that supports families affected by cancer. This organization provides these families a place to go to seek counseling, a library with books on cancer, various weekly groups including exercise and the children affected by cancer group, and various events to raise funds for families affected by cancer. Gilda''s club additionally has different locations nationally to support families through out the country. Glover and Parry (2009), conducted a research study with the purpose of identifying the therapeutic functions of Gilda''s Club in Toronto. An analysis of this study demonstrated how Gilda''s Club works as a place to support stressors of home and the hospital and how having this third place to go had a significant reduction in member''s stress levels (Glover & Parry, 2009). This therefore demonstrates the significant impact that this organization can have on families affected by cancer.

Some key forces in Gilda''s Club''s environment to which it''s stakeholders should pay attention to include cancer rates, health care availability, health insurance, survival rates, level of other support options in each area, the number of individuals utilizing this service on a weekly basis, the number of individuals attending each event, and the various family dynamics at each location. This agency identifies needs and opportunities for new services based on various meetings help throughout the year as well as surveys from its members which are requested to be filled out on various occasions. This agency additionally involves the community in this assessment process through getting feedback from volunteers of the organization, who have worked with the organization in various capacities, but are also aware of aspects of the community because they do not work at this organization full time.
