While no one disputes that allies are necessary to effecting real change in anti-oppression and anti-racist movements, there is disagreement about the degree of "wokeness"* that an ally "should" demonstrate and, indeed, what is considered to be acceptable behavior, attitude, and thinking on the part of an ally. But does one need to be a "perfect" ally in order to be effective at any given point in time in a movement geared towards bringing about social justice?
