Part 1: Summary (200-250 words)
A summary reports what a text is doing.
The objective of this assignment is to demonstrate your understanding of the argument in your chosen article by paraphrasing essential details. Imagine you are writing the summary for a reader who has not read the original text and consider what information from the text is crucial for an unfamiliar reader. Do this by describing the argument clearly and concisely: what work is being done by the argument? what is the main argument being put forward, and how is the argument developed? Maintain a balance between providing key details and context. Your summary should be within 200 to 250 words. Be careful with the word limit; going over or under will result in a 5% deduction for every 10 words from your assignment total (e.g. an assignment 280 words long exceeds the limit by 30 words, and therefore will receive a 15% deduction) Your summary must: 1. State clearly what the article is doing: is it convincing the audience of something, motivating them to take action, presenting facts, or dispelling myths? 2. Incorporate at least one direct quotation from the article. Assignments lacking direct quotations will not pass. 3. Highlight the essential features of the article that facilitate its primary "action" (i.e., convincing, motivating, etc.).

Part 2:
Analysis (200-250 words) In this section, you will analyze how the article achieves its purpose through the use of language, using the concept of "terministic screens".
The same length-rules as the summary section apply (5% deductions for every 10 words under or over the length limits).
Here's what you need to do: 1. Identify specific words and phrases in the article that stand out as "terministic screens."
These are words that direct our attention and shape our understanding of the topic.
2. Explain how these words and phrases guide our thinking (what makes them terministic screens). 3. Propose how these terministic screens assist the article in achieving its purpose.
Remember, terministic screens are not inherently good or bad, so you should explore screens that serve various functions, not just those that might be seen as manipulative or used for negative purposes. Tips: • Terministic Screens are like lenses or filters that influence how we perceive and interpret information. When you identify a word or phrase as a terministic screen, think about how it might shape a reader's perspective or focus their attention in a particular way.
Accessible language - Write your assignment using simple and clear language to make your analysis accessible to everyone. • Direct Quotation and paraphrase - When you use a direct quotation or paraphrase, make sure to cite it properly
