Context
Imagine that you are working at an Early Childhood Service as an early childhood teacher. You have been asked to design and prepare an Invitation to Play that supports children's language, artistic languages AND communication learning. (Use different materials/tools/resources)
You will need to demonstrate your understanding of language and communication in early childhood (Research how children acquire language and how children express themselves)
and the importance of the role of the teacher in constructing communication-rich environments(Research the importance of the role of the
teacher as a provider, constructor)
3x Invitations to Play
You will plan and prepare 3 invitations to play (with one presented in class to your peers) for a chosen age group of children (milestone) with a focus on language and communication (eg., the hundred languages of children).
One invitation has to be set up with the real materials that you would use with children.
"The Reggio Emilia perspective shifts the focus of the classroom away from the teacher and onto the students, viewing children as capable, self-reliant, intelligent, curious, and creative. This approach also treats the classroom as the 'third teacher', encouraging teachers to take a great deal of care in the creation and setup of the environment of the classroom and the materials that are introduced"
You must provide the concept plans for three invitations to play,
providing the written rationale for these,
including a graphic representation (eg, sketches, diagrams, photographs (including stock images of specific materials).
3 x Invitations to Play
The Invitations must include:
1 invitation to focus on creative arts and materials
1 invitation to focus on an experience for children that supports oral language development (Session 4)
1 invitation that focuses on supporting EAL learners
ASSESSMENT - Design, prepare and present 3 x Invitations to Play drawing on content of the unit material and journal explorations.
