Use the Assessment template to demonstrate and illustrate your emerging understanding of the child capable and competent.
"Children are capable and competent. They require the right circumstances that allow them to develop the experience to enhance their abilities, knowledge and skills. As an early childhood teacher, you can seek opportunities through your practice to support children to demonstrate their capability and competency in accordance with their skills and abilities."
Learning outcome 1: Articulate and critique major theories within the context of early childhood education
Learning outcome 2: Analyse and debate current research and contemporary issues in relation to children aged birth-8 5 years
Learning outcome 3: Design curriculum responsive to children aged birth - 5 years and families, informed by EYLFNEYLDF.
Learning outcome 4: Formulate teaching practices grounded in reciprocal relationship with children, families, and communities
The child is attentive and a problem -
1. Providing children with such tasks helps to engage their attention and will enable them to focus on definite tasks they are performing. Roma always tries to do her work on her own and listens to anything with great attention and therefore self-realization and reflection ability improve.
2. They should be provided with such activities that will help to improve their problem-solving ability and critical thinking ability. Shyam is one of them who never quits his work until he completes it. He utilizes alternatives to do his task and therefore his problem-solving capability has been improved a much.
To complete your assessment task, follow the below instructions.
Make sure you have looked through each session in Week 1, there are readings and resources available for you to use.
To start, download the ECE6009 Assessment 1 Template linked above and make sure you are familiar with the format. The first section is 500 words demonstrating your emerging understanding of the child as capable and competent. This should be a summary of your understanding and needs to reference at least 2 different sources (theory and/or literature). The second section is a table for descriptors and supporting examples
Complete the table by writing five descriptors o(Je child as capable and competent. An example of this might be: Descriptor #1 The child is a problem solver. Descriptor #2 The child...etc.
Next. add two examples to illustrate each descriptor. Your examples will demonstrate situations/opportunities where you view and react to children as capable and competent. The examples will reflect your image of the children and how you understand them.Child as Capable and Competent
