Question: Within your social group, your friends have noticed that Sondra has not been acting like herself. Without being pushy, you desire to approach her about a pill bottle you noticed fall from her backpack. Making assumptions about the situation will not encourage open communication. Therefore, state what your social group has observed and that will demonstrate to Sondra that you notice her. Her potential drug use is having negative effects on school, work, and your social group. She has been forgetting homework assignments and meeting times, and not showing up if you have made plans. The behaviors she is displaying include irrational thinking, joking about the failure of assignments, and being unable to talk or walk while under the influence. You are fearful that she is going to overdose and cause permanent damage or death.
