Assessment - User Interface Development
Task
In this assessment, you will be analysing, designing and updating an existing user interface (UI) of an advanced Android application. You will present your solution to diverse stakeholders via a video presentation.
Assessment Description
This assessment is designed to test your ability to analyse advanced mobile-related problems, critique the android application architecture and design of an advanced UI using an open-source development framework and to communicate the solution to diverse organisational stakeholders. You will be redesigning an XML based UI layout and implementing some new features to it.
Case Study:
You are hired as a UI/UX designer for Android apps in a company named ‘Elegant Apps.' As the designated UI/UX designer, your initial project involves crafting user interfaces for an employee management application tailored for Android devices. The primary objective is to design a user interface that effectively presents employee profiles with the following information:
Employee photo
First name
Last name
Date of birth
Gender
Date hired
Contract expiration date (applicable to non-ongoing employees)
Position in the company
Position start date
Manager's name
Emergency Contact
Following a collaborative meeting with the team lead, it was agreed upon that specific constraints would guide the design process:
CONSTRAINT 1. The UI will dynamically utilize available space, ensuring effective adaptation to changes in screen orientation.
CONSTRAINT 2. Implement appropriate colour/contrast schemes and styles to facilitate easy differentiation of information on the screen from other elements.
CONSTRAINT 3. Design the user interface to seamlessly support a minimum of two different languages.
To provide a suitable UI design, you need to do some research to find the answers on how to meet the above-mentioned constraints and then implement the UI design. You will also need to provide a presentation on your work outlining how the constraints were met and what would happen if they were not met.
Learning Outcome 1: Analyse the application architecture of the Android mobile operating system.
Learning Outcome 2: Design and develop a mobile application via the use of an open-source
development framework.
Learning Outcome 3: Analyse mobile-related problems and communicate their solutions to diverse
organisational stakeholders.
Assignment Instructions
Read the case study provided and analyse the application requirements.
Research on how to meet the constraints agreed with the team leader (described on page 2)
Design XML layout(s) to display employee information including all required UI components using Android Studio that meet the specifications outlined in the case study.
Review android styles vs themes and choose the appropriate one for this case to apply the colour/contrast schemes and styling on the selected UI components.
Select a second language to support in the app and implement it.
Create a video presentation to demonstrate the XML design layout(s) and their implementation to communicate your solution to diverse organisational stakeholders.
Include at least 10 references.
Submit your video presentation and code (zipped) to the designated submission platform by the due date.
Refer to the assessment marking guide to assist you in completing all the assessment criteria.
Your presentation must include the following sections:
