Assessment Task
Assessment Purpose:
Registered nurses are required to teach their peers, other professional staff and patients using a range of modalities and approaches to help facilitate learning. This assessment task directly helps you meet the learning outcomes related to the delivery and evaluation of your teaching practice, engaging others and applying what you have learned to a real session of teaching.
Assessment Description:
This task is Part B of your group task. Your group will submit a video of a peer teaching session based on your teaching plan from Assessment task 1A using the Kaltura Video Platform. You will also submit a revised session plan from Assessment Task 1A and a reference list for all references and resources used in your teaching session. Please follow the marking rubric to ensure all aspects of the assessment tasks are included.
1. As a group, use Kaltura to create a 12 minute video of your peer teaching session based on the plan.
The video is to be based on the written teaching plan your group created in Assessment Task 1A.
2. The teaching session will include 10 minutes of content presentation related to your chosen topic and 2 minutes of reflection and self-evaluation of your work as a group.
a. Each student will present for 2-4 minutes (based on the timing breakdown determined by the group).
b. Each student is required to identify themselves by holding up their student ID next to their face and stating their name, prior to their presentation.
c. The video may be presented as one integrated video (for students able to come together) or as one submission with separate sections uploaded in the correct sequence (see Assessment submission on Moodle).
3. The 2 minute reflection and evaluation is related to your planning, preparation and presentation as a group. You need to:
a. Demonstrate the application of the quality cycle.
b. Describe the improvements made following feedback from Assessment Task 1A.
Critically reflect on the planning, preparation and presentation as a group including strengths, limitations, and weaknesses of theteaching session
c. Make suggestions for how you could improve the planning, preparation and/or presentation.
d. Identify what your group has learned about the teaching role.
4. Submit a revised version of your written session plan from Assessment Task 1A that incorporates the changes made based on feedback received, and the reference list.
Creating the video using Kaltura
• Record your section of the video using Kaltura. Please follow the instructions on Moodle and access the Kaltura Guide video Support and Instructions book (link in Moodle Assessment section) to help you understand software application and how to make your recording.
• Ensure you have the latest Kaltura software installed on your laptop/personal computer by downloading the software from the software centre via the ITS home page. DO NOT USE KALTURA PHONE APP as this cannot be uploaded to My Media in Moodle and subsequently your recording won't be able to be submitted.
• Add others from your group as collaborators in your My Media/ Kaltura video files in Moodle. This is important so that other group members can view each other's videos and ensure a coherent piece of work with minimal overlap of ideas and repetitiveness.
• It is the responsibility of all students to ensure their Kaltura presentations are recorded
