MN601 Network Project Management
Learning Outcome 1: apply project management skills as a strategic tool, framework, or methodologyfor business development.

Purpose
Develop a well-researched project planning document based on the overall parameters of a networking related project,
Establish an appropriate project management plan, and quality environment required to complete the chosen project,
Analyse project issues, conduct post-project review (i.e., lessons learned) and make recommendations for improvements for future projects.
Assignment Description
In this assessment task, students will develop a proposal including its final report for a project. The proposal template is available on Moodle. The project must be selected from networking, telecommunication or Information Technology areas. Your topic should be clear and succinct. Research on existing or emerging technologies in your selected area and find suitable topics that fit the group's research interest. It is the responsibility of each group member to support each other
and select a topic that all members are collectively interested in examining and writing a proposal.
The project duration should be at least 6 months or more. Before starting, seek approval for the proposed project from your laboratory tutor. Students need to address all stages of Project Management as outlined in the unit. A project management software, MS Project, must be used. The project report should include all phases of a project life cycle. Project Management Plan helps the management team to maintain a constant focus towards delivering the project in accordance with the customer needs and expectations.
The following points must be considered in writing the project report.
• Students are expected to show evidence of self-directed reading and research using credible resources including, but not limited to their prescribed text. The assignment will be marked on the depth of analysis, research, references and integration of all aspects of project management.
• Assessment will be based on how realistic the project is and its presentation. The timeline, budget and quality of the work must be realistic, justifiable and sufficiently attractive to win a tender for a real project.
Project report requirements
The project should include Initiating, Planning, Executing and Closing phases. Below are the selected topics which must include on the report, but not limited to:
• Initiating
Developing Project Charter (Project Tittle, Project Description, Project Outcome, Project Team)
• Planning
Planning Project Scope (Project Objective, Deliverables, Milestone and Limitation), Work Breakdown Structure, Schedule, Estimate Costs, Resources, Stakeholder Analysis, Communications Management, Quality Management, Risk Management and Ethical Issues Analysis.
• Executing and Monitoring
Providing general Executing and Monitoring information, also Project Crashing for 2 weeks.
• Closing
Providing Customer Feedback and Lesson Learnt
Note that your report must be presented using the headings and subheadings above. Besides this, students need to have regular project meetings and include the meeting minutes of each project meeting as an appendix at the end of the project report.
