Operations Management Plan

The purpose of this assessment is to allow students take on a management perspective to analyse an organisational process and develop an operations management plan with the aim of improving the situation.
Students will be required to analyse on process in the company they work for or a company they are familiar with and develop a plan with solutions required to make improvements. The operations plan will cover the following:
1. An introduction to the organisation or supply chain
2. Description of the selected process
3. Analysis of the process using relevant concepts to identify shortcomings
4. Evaluation of the possible strategies for addressing the shortcomings
5. Recommendations of the most suitable strategies
6. Resource requirements for implementing the proposed strategies
7. Implementation plan for the proposed strategies
8. Conclusion
Learning Outcome 1: Demonstrate critical understanding of the strategic role which operations management plays in an organisation's success.
Learning Outcome 2: Analyse and evaluate the relationships between stakeholders, business strategies, organisational structures and social institutions from an operational management context.
Learning Outcome 3: Analyse business operations using appropriate performance measures such as, but not limited to, flow time, throughput rate and capacity.
Learning Outcome 4: Evaluate and model ways of effectively implementing state of the art theories of quality control and management activities in business operations.
Learning Outcome 5: Assess and synthesise diverse information in order to apply appropriate techniques and tools to address modern operations management challenges faced by organisations and institutions including, but not limited to, logistics and supply chain management.

Values Audit Report
This assessment requires students to select an organisation for an analysis and review of one or more of the organisation's stated ethical commitments. Students must discuss the organisation and topic in advance with their lecturer.
The aim of the values audit is to ascertain the nature, implications, communication and management of particular ethical commitments, and the extent to which there is a gap between commitment and reality.
Students are required to extensively and systematically apply the concepts discussed in the unit,, the textbook and relevant theory to their analysis.
The report should begin with a paragraph or two to introduce the organisation before going into the analysis. Finally, one or two paragraphs summarizing conclusions is expected. Marks are awarded based on how well the values, commitments and gaps are answered as well as the use and analysis of evidence and logic to justify answers, and the persuasiveness and readability of the writing. At least 6 relevant sources are recommended. Academic sources are recommended.
APA6 or APA7 formatting of citations and reference page/s are required.

Students will be required to prepare written answers to set of questions related to an international managerial situation.
The scenario will examine the impact of the global business environment on the situation in point and will require students to:
1. Demonstrate an integrated theoretical and practical understanding of core global business issues relevant to a particular organization;
2. Discuss relevant strategies employed by global businesses to ensure their sustainability; and
3. Both critique and apply paradigms acquired thus far in the unit; and
4. Identify specific challenges faced by global business managers.

Assume that you are the manager of an Australian firm which has branches all over the world. You are assigned a task to prepare a group of employees for a short-term global assignment to Malaysia. Your task is to prepare them for the assignment and to lead and manage them from your office in Sydney while they are in Malaysia.
As a global manager:
- What are the challenges of working and living globally and how are you going to prepare your team for the assignment?
- What strategies would you implement to ensure smooth settlement of your team in the new country?
- How do you keep them motivated and engaged while they are away from home?
- As they are on a short-term assignment and they will return to their home country by the end of the year, what important aspects of repatriation should you consider and how would you manage the returning expatriates?
You must provide answers to each question using relevant theories and concepts from the textbook and other reliable sources. You are also expected to provide critical analysis, discussion and sound arguments using reliable and relevant sources such as the textbook, peer-reviewed articles, periodical, newspapers, and online sources.
