Investing in Stocks & Shares -Stock Portfolio
Directions:Imagine that you are a broker investing for a client. In groups, select5 different stocks to invest 10,000 USD, dividing up the sum as you wish; however, your client doesn't want to take risks.
1. Choose shares in large, well-established companies with a good reputation for quality and profitability. Use google or the following website to research the companies to invest in.

2. Go to https://www.investopedia.com/simulator
- Setup an account
- Go to the Beginner Game
- Go to Trade to start buying stocks
- Enter the company and number of shares for each stock (NOTE: you will have to wait until the market opens the following day to see if your purchase went through)
3. Following your stocks for a week, on the game or via the internet
4. Next class write a report explaining how well or badly the portfolio did, with reasons and/or explanations for any price change.
In the report explain the following questions:
1. Which stocks did you choose? Why?
2. What are the risks associated with each investment?
3. What was the buying price?
4. What was the end price?
5. Did you gain or lose on this stock? If so, how much?
6. Overall, how did your portfolio perform? Would you have done anything differently?
Report
Write a short report (1-2 pages) outlining the stocks that you chose, reasons for choosing the stocks and analysis of the portfolio's performance. Use appropriate subtitles (e.g. Description of Stock/Company, Overall Portfolio Performance, etc.). Make sure to reference the report if needed using correct format for references.
Submit the report to MOODLE. Write the report in your own words, TURNITIN software will check your submissions for plagiarism. Reports that have more than 20% match will get zero grade and will be referred for investigation.
