In 1993 South Africa established its first Democratic Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. The Bill of Right Act limited within this constitution particularly recognized the right to privacy in terms of section 13: 'Every person shall have the right to his or her personal privacy, which include the right not to the subject to searches of his or person, home or property, the seizure of private possessions or the violations of private communications' (Burchell, 2009). The issues of information privacy and security are important elements to be addressed in HRIS. The information that HRIS contains includes confidential data such as medical data, bank account, salaries and performance evaluation. Organisations need to be aware of the internal and external factors that could be a threat stored in the HRIS, and they need to strong information security plans and procedures to protect their data.
