Assignment:
All Americans have a critical issue with Health. As a result, health care is once again a hotly debated political topic in the United States. The approved definition of "health" will establish treatment and quality targets for providers (as well as reimbursements), payer budgets (employers, insurance firms, and government insurers), and patient, stakeholder, and policymaker expectations.
Take into account the following three definitions of "health":
1) According to the WHO, "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity".
2) According to the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), "the ability to conduct a life that is as socially and economically rewarding as available physical and financial resources will allow"
3) From the Webster Dictionary, "the condition of being sound in body, mind, and spirit, especially free of disease or infirmity."
Task:
Which definition of "health" among these three do you think is most appropriate for America, and why?
Consider your option in terms of cost, fairness, feasibility, and personal (patient) and societal responsibility. Consider the influence of the definition on acute hospital care, chronic illnesses, disease prevention, population health, and the overall economic and stakeholder impact of your option.
Please give details, explain, and demonstrate that you thoroughly considered the question.
