Assignment:

Imagine the following situation. You are walking down the street and you find a wallet filled with cash. There is almost $5,000 in the wallet.

The owner's driver's license is in the wallet. So, you know the identity of the owner, and could return the wallet to him. You also know the owner of the wallet to be a miserly, mean hearted fellow, who would not do anything good with the money. Alternatively, you could give the money to Children's Hospital, where the money would be used to make the lives of sick children a little brighter. You have decided not to keep the money for yourself. You have two other choices. Return the wallet to its rightful owner or donate the money to the Children's Hospital.

1. Identify an ethical theory that would support you giving the money to the Children's Hospital. Be sure to (i) provide a definition of the ethical theory and (ii) explain how the ethical theory supports your decision.

2. Identify an ethical theory that would support a decision to return the money to its owner.

Be sure to (i) provide a definition of the ethical theory and (ii) explain how the ethical theory supports your decision.

3. Discuss as a group and attempt to reach a group consensus decision to the question: "What should you do?" State the results of the group
discussion/decision. Was there a particular factor or factors that swayed the group decision? If the group could not reach a consensus decision, what factors contributed to this result?
