Imagine that you are a researcher tasked with gathering data on the amount of dating violence against women that occurs on a particular university campus. Bear in mind that research shows that this violence (like other forms of intimate partner violence) can be (and often is) intentionally perpetrated in order to cause physical harm to the victim. However, violence involving intimate partners (which includes dating relationships) often includes other forms of harm that some scholars argue should be considered violence, including psychological and emotional harm.

What results and challenges might a researcher expect and face were they to adopt a broad definition like the one espoused by Jackman (2002)?
