Overview

Ever since the pandemic, there has been a lot of debate going on in corporate spaces about the nature of work.

The world spent two years working from home, and now there seems to be an awakening among office goers that the old model of 9 am-5 pm workdays isn't a productive way to spend one's time and life.

Offices have begun testing the efficiency of three types of work models:

Work only from home/anywhere
Work sometimes from home and sometimes from the office (hybrid work)
Work only from the office

In it Google's former CEO, Eric Schmidt, says he is pleased that Google has begun to call employees back to the office through a hybrid model. He says:

"in office style has been effective"
"I don't know how you build great management virtually"

Your assignment

The CEO, Eric Schmidt of Google, hires you as an Organizational Behavior Consultant and asks you what the effect on Organizational Behavior will be in the three models detailed above.

You have carefully read his views in the link provided above. Now answer the following questions.

There are five questions. EACH QUESTION IS VALUED AT 3 MARKS.

Q1. Using the definition of Organizational Behavior (OB) and the challenges and opportunities discussed in Chapter 1, explain what the impact will be OB with each of the three models.

Q2. Referencing Chapter 3, for each of the three models, what do you think will be the key challenges of hiring and managing employees? Specifically, how will newly hired employees be evaluated for their personality traits in each of the three models?

Q3. How does Google motivate employees through job design, goal setting and performance incentives, as described in Chapter 6?

Q4. Each of these three models is likely to cause stress and emotional issues. From Chapter 7, what do you think they will be?

Q5. Of the three models, which one will you recommend to Google's CEO as being the best fit and which will keep employees engaged, and motivated and strengthen Organizational Citizenship Behaviors -OCB (You can refer to Chapter 4 for OCB)
