Understanding how data is cataloged into a data dictionary is one of the basic principles to understanding the complex nature of an electronic medical record (EMR) which is critical to the role of a health information management (HIM) director. After reading the article, "What is a Data Dictionary" by Michelle Hermann which was published in the Journal of AHIMA, please respond to the following questions:

  2. Why is it important for an HIM Director to understand how a data dictionary is important to the design of an electronic medical record (EMR)?
  3. What could potentially occur within an electronic medical record (EMR) if corrupt or inaccurate data is represented by the data dictionary? How could this be prevented?
  4. What are examples of the different functions a health information management (HIM) director might facilitate to ensure an electronic medical record (EMR) is functioning within the design of the data dictionary embedded in the software?
