Discourse community analysis
In brief. This assignment asks you to writ a paper that accomplishes two interrelated goals:
1.) You will draw on what you've learned from course readings and discussions to offer a brief definition of the discourse community concept and what it might mean to have authority within such a community.
2.) You will use this definition as a framework for analyzing a specific discourse community.
You may select one of the following discourse communities (or a subsection of these
communities) for your essay:
• Medical practitioners
• Politicians
• Baristas
• Gamers
• Teachers
• Grocery store workers
• Students at UTM
• Factory workers
• Professionals in your intended field
