Prompt:
Write an argument of definition about a term such as military combatants or illegal alien that has suddenly become culturally significant or recently changed in some important way. Either defend the way the term has come to be defined or raise questions about its appropriateness, offensiveness, inaccuracy, and so on.
Consider words or expressions such as terrorism, marriage, equality, racist, assisted suicide, enhanced interrogation, tea partier, collateral damage, forcible rape, net neutrality, etc.
You may consider these claims from page 188 as well. Feel free to use one of these claims or create a your own variation of one of these claims:
• Graphic novels are serious literature.
• Burning a nations flag is a hate crime.
• Plagiarism can be an act of civil disobedience.
• Satanism is a religion properly protected by the first amendment.

You may also try to write about "far-fetched" examples:
• Oprah Winfrey is a cult leader.
• Tom Cruise is an alien.
• Disney is a virus.
If you notice, these celebrities are being defined using similes. Using similes is a great way to highlight the traits or criteria of something you wish to define.
