All products sold at the Co-op retail stores in Western Canada are purchased and distributed by Federated Cooperatives Ltd (FCL). The produce buyer for FCL purchases 13 loads of Chiquita bananas per week (one load equals one full 40-foot ocean container). Also, one load per week is purchased from Dole. Chiquita bananas usually come from Guatemala in Central America on a Great White Fleet (Chiquita) ship in refrigerated containers. FCL receives the bananas from Chiquita's (refrigerated) warehouses in three different ports in the United States. The bananas are destined for each of FCL's food warehouses in Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg. For the Calgary warehouse, FCL receives three loads per week from Port Hueneme (just north of Los Angeles) and one load per week from San Diego. For the Saskatoon warehouse, FCL receives four loads per week from Hueneme. For the Edmonton warehouse, FCL receives three to four loads per week from Hueneme. And for the Winnipeg warehouse, FCL receives two loads per week from Freeport, Texas. A refrigerated company truck/trailer is sent down at regular intervals to pick up a load so that the ripening (ethylene) gas chambers in each DC are used evenly.
Is there a better way, in terms of supply chain management, to satisfy FCL's Chiquita banana demand? Explain in reasonable depth, with diagrams or cost/time estimates as applicable.
Read the passage carefully and answer the questions:
You are about to graduate your Bachelor Degree Programme after all these years of study. Thinking seriously about your future, you realize that this is not the end, but the beginning of another phase of life. Graduating from Bachelor Degree Programme marks the beginning of your adulthood and you will soon begin working. It is time to plan your future career. The first difficult question you need to deal with is what to study next in university. Your area of study will have an impact on your future work as well as your career development plan. If you are clear about your goal, i.e. you know the profession you would like to join it would be easy for you to find ways to realize it. For instance, if you decided that you would like to be a nurse or an accountant, it would be much easier for you to choose your area of study because a relevant degree is a prerequisite. On the other hand, if you cannot or do not intend to go for further study to university, you may need to consider the type of job you want to choose. In general, it is common that students about your age do not have a solid career goal.
Considering the above situation come up with a Decision Making and Problem Solving Worksheet answering the following question:
1. Defining the Question then Generate Alternatives
2. Identify the variables to consider and weight the considerations
3. Weighing the alternatives and calculate decision ?
