To prepare sodium hypochlorite( NaCLO), the principle component in chlorine bleach, chlorine gas is bubbled throught an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide:2NaOH(aq) + CL2(g)-------> NaOCL(aq) + NaCL(aq) + H2O(I)
A) If you begin with 18ml of 0.25 M NaOH(aq) and add 100ml of chlorine gas at 0.993 atm and 25degrees C and the final temp of the calorimeter is 28.42 degrees C, what is the heat capacity of the reaction? Remember that there is the water the NaOH is dissolved in as well as the calorimeter to include in the calculation.
B) What is the molar enthalpy of the reaction?
C) Based on the enthalpies of formation and of the other components in the reaction, what is the enthalpy of formation of sodium hypochlorite?
It was originally part of my ebook EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CHEMICAL NOMENCLATURE. If you want more information or a more complete description to include inorganic compounds please see the ebook section of this website.
Calculate the pH when 8.14 g of NaClO is added to 445.5 mL of 0.50 M HClO. Ignore any changes in volume.
In the transition metals (the d-block), the electron configuration of cations is different than what you might expect. Instead of the d electrons being lost first, s electrons are lost first.
nitric oxide no is made from the oxidation of nh3 and the reactions is represented by the following equation4nh35o2
Given that O2 is parmagnetic and has a bond order of 2, and its highest occupied molecular orbital is antibonding, what would be the expected bond orders for O2 2- and O2 2+?
Describe the difference between an ionic bond and a covalent bond. Give an example of a compound that exhibits ionic bonding. Give an example of a compound that exhibits a covalent bond.
Recrystallization from 95% ethanol gave yellow crystals. What is the overall mechanism for this reaction including all arrows, the identification of the electrophile and nucleophile, and all charges?
Assume you carry out an experiment when the atmospheric pressure is 765mmHg and the temp in 24 degrees C. you collect Hydrogen gas and want to know the pressure of the gas
What is the pH of a phosphate buffer when [H2PO4-] = 40 mM and [HPO42-] = 30 mM?
Oxalic acid, H2C2O4 has acid dissociation constants Ka1=5.9x10^-2 and Ka2=6.4x10^-5. What is the pH after 20.00 mL of 0.0500 M NaOH is added to 5.00 mL of 0.2000 M H2C2O4
a compoud is known to contain only carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. If the complete combustion of a .150 g sample of this compoud produces
