Some species of bacteria can oxidize nitrite to nitrate using the energy released by the transfer of electrons to drive ATP synthesis. The relevant redox reactions are as follows:
NO3- + 2H+ + 2e- ---> NO2- +H2O, E= 0.42V
1/2 O2 + 2H+ + 2e- ---> H2O, E= 0.82V

F= 23.062 kilocals/mol

(ii) determine the maximum yield of ATP per mole of nitrite oxidized. What is the % efficiency of ATP synthesis in this system? What happens to the energy not used for ATP synthesis?
