More than four decades after the Civil Rights Movement and Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous "I Have Dream" speech, Americans are still struggling to achieve equality and peace among people of different races and ethnicities. The criminal justice system is one of many arenas in which equality and peace still have not been fully realized. The number of minorities in criminal justice professions is increasing, perhaps due to mechanisms such as affirmative action and other nongovernmental initiatives. Interracial and interethnic conflicts, however, continue to create problems in criminal justice workplaces.

For this Discussion, you think about whether or not there is a continued need for the criminal justice system to have mechanisms in place to ensure representation of racial and ethnic minorities in criminal justice professions. Then, you think about interracial and interethnic conflict among criminal justice professionals, and you consider how these types of conflict could be addressed.
