Why do we have to turn the solution very acidic first before we convert the ions into sulfides? Why don't we just make the sulfides first with the unknown?
1. because some sulfides precipitate from Group 3 and we would not be able to separtate them from the Group 2 ions.
2. because the acid really makes the ions precipitate faster
3. because the amount of acid used allows us to use lesser amounts of costly thioacetamide
4. Because sulfides can only be made with acid solutions
5. because hydrogen sulfide ions are easier to precipitate
diffracted by a metallic crystal, the angle of first-order diffraction (n = 1) is measured to be 15.2°. What is the distance between the layers of atoms responsible for the diffraction?
The half life of Iodine-131 is 8.0252 days. If 14.2 grams of I-131 is released in Japan and takes 31.8 days to travel across the Pacific
As a chemist for an agricultural products company, you have just developed a new herbicide,"Herbigon," that you think has the potential to kill weeds effectively
Which of the following buffer systems would be the best choice to create a buffer with the pH= 9.00? For the best system , calculate the ratio of the masses of the buffer components required to make the buffer.
2.00 moles of a gas occupies 62.2 L at a particular temperature and pressure. Its density is 0.900 g/L. The standard molar volume is 22.4 L/mole. What is the molar mass.
Compound Z has a solubility limit of 32.5 g/L in diethyl ether. Compund Z has a solubility limit od 2.5 g/L in water. You are given a 100 mL aqueous solution that contains 200 mL of compund Z. If you do three 33.3 mL extractions of Z using diethyl..
A sample of CO2 g in a piston at 7.5 atm and 1090. L is allowed to come to equilibrium against a constant external pressure of 8.3 atm at constant temperature. Calculate the work observed for the volume change in the piston (in kJ).
A buffered solution is made by adding 50.9 g NH4Cl to 1.00 L of a 0.75 M solution of NH3. Calculate the pH of the final solution. (Assume no volume change.)
To learn how to calculate the solubility from Ksp and vice versa. Consider the following equilibrium between a solid salt and its dissolved form (ions) in a saturated solution:
what amount of heat would need to be added to 5.0 x 103 g of water to change its temperature from 21c to 84c?
Steam at 3MPa and 300oC exits a boiler and goes into a high pressure turbine in which it is expanded to 300kPa. The steam is then sent back to the boiler (constant pressure heat exchanger) and reheated to 300oC.
